New Energy Device R&D Laboratory

KRI researchers specialize in not only in fuel cell (cells/stacks), but also a wide range of technologies such as catalysis, heat management, etc. By combining these specializations, they support their clients for the research and development of energy devices from basic research to practical application development.

Research and development of fuel cell cells/stacks

KRI contracts projects for the research and development of PEFC or SOFC across a wide range covered basic research of catalyst, electrode, etc. and practical application development (evaluation of full-size cell for power generation, planning for FC system, design and trial production of demo machine, etc.).

Research and development of fuel cell cells/stacks

[Contract examples]

  • Power generation test with industry standard cells
  • Durability test
  • Power generation evaluation with the client’s components
  • Planning of evaluation methods
  • Customize measurement (cell/evaluation device)

Application development for module/system

By coordinating KRI’s basic technology (electrochemistry, catalysis evaluation, etc.) and application technology (system design, heat management, etc.), research and development of energy devices focused on fuel cells is conducted.

Application development for module/system

[Contract examples]

  • Evaluation of modules and systems in simulated operation mode
  • Trial production of modules and systems for stacks
  • Identification and suggestion for improvement of technological issues
  • Confirming principles for new technologies
  • Demonstrations inside or outside the client’s facilities
