Basic Information

Researchers

We retain approximately 120 researchers in a wide range of research fields centered on chemistry, such as organic chemistry, inorganic chemistry, polymer chemistry, analytical chemistry, catalytic chemistry, electrochemistry, and chemical engineering, as well as molecular biology, biochemistry, solid-state physics, information, machinery, precision machinery, control, combustion, metal, resources, and environmental engineering. Most of them have corporate R&D experience. And approximately one-third of the researchers have a doctorate.

Research Facilities

We occupy 6,200 m2 of wet and dry laboratories in both Kyoto and Osaka, and own material synthesizing and prototyping apparatuses, various types of analyzing apparatuses, and evaluation and testing apparatuses required for research. We also cooperate with a wide range of partner companies and research organizations, which are equipped with a variety of appropriate facilities.

Seed Discovery Efforts

We enhance researchers to pursue original in-house research to create new technical "seeds" that can be proposed to our clients. We are also engaged in an exploratory research support program which cooperates mainly with universities in digging for the seeds of new technology ideas.

Clients

Over the 30 years since its founding, KRI has been contracted by over 2,000 corporate clients. Most clients are first-rank manufacturers that drive Japanese industry, with which KRI has established longstanding relationships of trust and from which KRI has been receiving orders for years. Their business categories include vehicles, chemicals, machinery & precision instruments, electrical equipment, steel & metal products, ceramics, electric power & gas, oil, food, and so on. Over 90% of these companies are listed on the prime section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange.

History

1987 Founded as Kansai Research Institute, Inc. in Konohana-ku, Osaka
Begins activities with five organizations (new materials, surface science, biotechnology, electronic systems, and business consulting (Tokyo))
1988 Moves into the Kyoto Research Park, transfers HQ divisions and laboratories
1998 Establishes new Energy Conversion Research Laboratory
1999 Absorbs the Analysis Center from Osaka Gas, Co., Ltd.'s research division, establishes the Analysis & Evaluation Center (currently the Analysis Research Center)

2003 Changes company name to KRI, Inc., changes registration of HQ location to Kyoto
