For secondary deterioration / abnormal deterioration which is difficult to predict, we propose development to correspond to materials, components, electrodes / battery design and sensing.

Purpose / Background

● In battery design, life prediction is determined assuming deterioration of materials, components, electrodes, etc., but it may cause abnormal deterioration mechanism which can not be assumed in design and accelerated test, and sudden capacity drop (secondary deterioration) due to a change in deterioration mechanism, etc.

Expected causes
  • ・Expansion of inhomogeneous reaction due to aged deterioration
  • ・Apparent load increase at capacity drop
  • ・Rise in resistance at low temperature and deterioration

Proposal from KRI / Future development / Expected results, etc.

Corresponding to secondary deterioration / abnormal deterioration with design margin / system safety factor can cause energy density reduction and cost increase. It is important to clarify reactive homogeneity and overvoltage deterioration factors that cause secondary degradation and abnormal deterioration.
